The See U app is an assistive product built to improve daily life for people with visual impairment, using AI, voice, image understanding and a virtual assistant to support autonomy, mobility and social inclusion.
Since 2009 we have worked to broaden access to inclusive technology for more than 40 million Brazilians with severe vision loss or blindness, subject to the features we ship in each product version.

4. Data we collect and why
4.1 Account and profile data
📊 What we may collect (depending on features you use):
- •Full name
- •Phone (optional)
- •Date of birth
- •National ID (CPF) for specific services only, where required
- •Profile photo (optional)
🎯 Why we use it:
- Create and manage your account
- Sign you in and protect your access
- Personalise the experience
- Send important service notifications
- Meet legal and accounting duties where they apply
Legal basis (LGPD, high level): Contract performance (Art. 7, V) and, where we ask, consent (Art. 7, I)
4.2 Audio and voice data
📊 What we may collect (depending on features you use):
- •Voice commands
- •Short-lived processing buffers
- •Style preferences for speech
- •TTS preferences
🎯 Why we use it:
- Run voice control and the voice assistant “Maria”
- Map hardware keys (e.g. volume) to app actions, where the OS allows
- Convert speech to text for the features you enable
- Improve our models in aggregated, privacy-preserving form where we do so at all
Legal basis (LGPD, high level): Contract performance and, where a microphone permission is used, your consent (Art. 7, I and II)
🔒 Temporary audio buffers are deleted or overwritten as soon as the feature allows
4.3 Image and camera data
📊 What we may collect (depending on features you use):
- •Still frames you capture in the app
- •On-device and cloud metadata needed for the assistive feature
- •Short video clips, where a feature needs it
- •EXIF where available (we strip where we can in production)
🎯 Why we use it:
- Describe scenes, text and people for you (assistive use)
- OCR, social stories, or other in-app tools you start yourself
- Debug with your consent, via crash/feedback flow
Legal basis (LGPD, high level): Your consent for the camera, plus contract to deliver the feature you select
🗑️ We aim to keep cloud-side copies only as long as needed, often under 24 hours for one-off description jobs
4.4 Location data
📊 What we may collect (depending on features you use):
- •Precise GPS, when you grant it
- •Coarse (network) position
- •Route or trip history, only if the feature you turn on needs it
- •Background position, only on OS builds that require a separate background permission
🎯 Why we use it:
- Step-by-step navigation and nearby places
- Cultural and city features that use location, when you use them
- Safety alerts related to a route you are actively following, where we ship them
Legal basis (LGPD, high level): Specific, informed consent for location, including any background mode (Art. 7, I; Art. 11, II, a, where applicable)
🚨 Background access is for active assistive sessions (e.g. wayfinding), not 24/7 advertising tracking
5. App permissions (typical, may vary by build)
| Permission | Typical use | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| 🎤 Microphone | Voice commands and the “Maria” assistant | Yes (core to voice features) |
| 📷 Camera | Image description and live assistive features | Optional |
| 📍 Fine location | Maps and turn-by-turn guidance | Optional |
| 🗺️ Background location | Guidance when the app is in the background, only on supported OS versions | Optional |
| 🔔 Notifications | Important alerts and reminders | Recommended |
| 💾 Storage | Settings, cache, downloaded assets | Yes |
| 🌐 Internet | AI, maps, sign-in, updates | Yes |
| 📳 Vibration | Haptic feedback for accessibility | Yes |
🚨 Background location – prominent notice
The ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION permission is needed for some core accessibility features, not for ad tracking:
🎯 Why we may need it
- ♿ Continuous guidance: many blind and low-vision users need spoken instructions even when the phone is locked or another app is in front
- 🗺️ Proximity alerts: points of interest or hazards along a route you started in the app
- 🎪 Some cultural or city features that you explicitly open may use position to personalise the experience
- 🔊 Real-time rerouting alerts without forcing you to return to the home screen each time
🛡️ How we protect you
- You can revoke the permission in system settings at any time
- We only use it for features you start (e.g. a navigation or city session), not for 24/7 “always on” ad profiles
- We do not sell your location; see the “Sharing” section for processors we use
- Data in transit is protected with modern TLS; data at rest with strong encryption in our stack
- We do not sell your personal data; see the “we do not share for” list
- We apply retention limits (e.g. history windows described in the security section) and can delete on request, subject to law
7. How we share data
🤝 Sub-processors and partners (service delivery only)
We share your data only to run the product, not to run third-party ad networks on your back:
🤖 See U AI platform
Model hosting and image/voice analysis (data minimised and, where possible, de-identified)
🗺️ Google Maps Platform
Map tiles, routes, and place search, when you use map features
🔥 Firebase (Google)
Sign-in, anonymised usage/crash data, and push where enabled
☁️ Railway / AWS (or similar)
Secure hosting, encrypted backups, and job queues
🚫 We do not share for
- ❌Third-party ad targeting on ad exchanges
- ❌Data brokers that resell people lists
- ❌Ad networks that build cross-app profiles on you
- ❌Spray-and-pray marketing companies unrelated to the service
- ❌Selling or renting your contact list
- ❌Purposes unrelated to providing See U that you have not been told about in this policy
9. Storage and security
🔐 Security measures (non-exhaustive)
Encryption
TLS 1.3+ in transit; AES-256-class encryption at rest where we control storage
Sign-in
MFA where available; least-privilege access inside our team
Perimeter
WAF, DDoS protection and hardening of public endpoints
Monitoring
24/7 alerts on suspicious access patterns in our infrastructure
Backups
Encrypted backups and tested restore for critical data
Testing
Regular penetration tests and bug bounty where applicable
🗄️ Retention (typical – see product UI for the exact value)
Account profile
Until you delete the account
Voice command buffers
Deleted or overwritten as soon as processing allows
Analysed images in the cloud
Usually under 24 hours; never kept as a “photo library”
Location history
We aim for ~90 days unless law requires more or you ask to keep a proof
Conversations with Maria
Up to about one year unless you ask us to delete earlier, subject to law
Access logs (security / fraud)
On the order of a few months unless an incident requires a longer hold

13. Minors (children and teens)
Typical cut-off in product flows: 13+ with a parent/guardian where a profile is required, or 18+ where we do not run a child-specific flow. Always check the in-app sign-up form for the exact number today.
🛡️ When minors use the app (where allowed):
- ✅ We only collect the minimum the feature needs
- ✅ We do not use minors’ data for ad profiling as described in the “we do not share for” list
- ✅ We aim for short retention of minor-specific records where the law allows a shorter period
- ✅ We may block or limit features for legal or safety reasons
👨👩👧 Parents and guardians (where the law and product allow) may:
- ✅ See or correct a minor’s account data, with verification we reasonably require
- ✅ Ask for the account to be closed
- ✅ Withdraw or adjust consent, where the service was consent-based for that minor
- ✅ Contact the DPO at the e-mail in this policy
11.2 Deleting your account (high level; follow in-app labels)
You can ask to delete your account and the personal data that depends on the account, subject to legal and security exceptions:
📱 In the app (typical):
- Open the See U app on your device
- Open the menu, then “Settings” (or the gear icon)
- Open “Account” and choose the delete / close account path
- Confirm with the credentials the app requires
📧 By e-mail to the DPO / privacy team:
Write to privacidade@seeu.digital
Cool-off window: in some product versions you may have ~30 days to cancel a delete request. After the cool-off, deletion may be irreversible to the extent technically and legally possible.
